This Privacy Policy explains how White Noise collects, uses, and stores information when you use the White Noise mobile app and related services available at https://whitenoise.bcrypt.cc.

What White Noise does

White Noise provides ambient sound playback, downloadable audio, relaxation articles, favorites, timers, alarms, and related listening features.

Information stored on your device

The app stores certain information locally on your device so the app can function properly. This may include:

• favorites and saved playback preferences
• theme, brightness, timer, and other in-app settings
• downloaded audio files and local download metadata
• dismissed update prompts and similar app-state preferences

Information processed by our backend

When the app connects to the White Noise backend, we may process:

• requests for the sound catalog, article feed, app version checks, and app slot configuration
• standard technical request data such as IP address, user agent, and request timestamps
• audio download authorization records when premium or entitled downloads are used
• sound metadata and article content served to the app

Premium downloads and entitlements

If premium downloads or entitlement-based features are enabled, White Noise may process an entitlement token or related user identifier to verify access and generate download permissions. Download grant records may include the entitled user id, sound id, issue and expiry time, IP address, and user agent for security and abuse prevention.

Information we do not intentionally collect in the current app build

• we do not require a direct in-app account to use standard playback features
• we do not knowingly collect precise location data
• we do not knowingly upload your contacts, photos, microphone recordings, or messages to our backend
• we do not sell personal information

How we use information

We use information only as needed to:

• deliver audio, article, and configuration content
• support offline downloads and entitlement checks
• maintain service reliability, rate limiting, and abuse prevention
• remember your local app preferences and playback experience
• diagnose operational issues and improve the service

Third-party infrastructure

White Noise uses third-party infrastructure providers to host and deliver the service, including Cloudflare services such as Workers, D1, KV, and R2. If app store billing or entitlements are used, the relevant app store operator may also process your purchase information under its own privacy terms.

Data retention

Local app data remains on your device until you remove it, clear app storage, or uninstall the app. Server-side operational records are retained only as long as reasonably necessary for service operation, security, entitlement enforcement, and legal compliance.

Children's privacy

White Noise may include content for parents and caregivers, including baby sleep material, but the app is not directed to children to use independently. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children.

Your choices

• you can uninstall the app at any time
• you can remove local downloads from the device within the app or by clearing app storage
• you can limit app permissions using your device settings
• you can decide whether to use premium or entitlement-based download features

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the “Last updated” date on this page.
